Trauma; relationships (including the relationship we learn to develop with ourselves); repeated invalidation; feeling alone or misunderstood; struggles regulating intense emotions; self-criticism or other ways of coping that feel self-destructive or no longer helpful (including addiction, eating disorders, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts); and challenges with anxiety, depression or anger.
I do not believe people come to therapy because they are “ill” or there is anything “wrong” with them. Instead, I think we all have a natural drive towards self-understanding and personal growth. I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help people understand and trust their internal experience, feel more empowered, fulfil unmet needs, and heal.
